On Friday, May 17, 2019, the United States announced that it would eliminate tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum<\/strong> in the days that followed, which was great news for the Canadian economy. Indeed, Canada had responded to these new tariffs by imposing reciprocal countermeasures of an equivalent amount on imports of steel, aluminum and other products from their country in return to the United States. Following the exchange and decision of the United States, Ottawa also agreed to lift the new measures imposed.<\/p>\n

Henceforth, Canada and the United States will join forces to protect workers and build the industry. It is the workers, the families, but also the consumers who remain the big winners, because it had an impact on the price of certain products, reminds us the Minister Champagne. It also explains that about 84% of our exports went to the United States, which would have had an inevitable impact on the Canadian economy.<\/p>\n
